TakeMeBack Privacy Policy

Last updated 19 September 2026

TakeMeBack keeps the places you save on your own phone. There is no account, no sign-in, and no copy of your library on our servers. This page explains the few things that do leave your phone, and who handles them.

The short version

We do not have your places. We cannot read them, we cannot lose them, and we could not hand them to anyone if we were asked. Four features send something out, always to do a job you asked for: address search, the AI lookup, sharing, and checking whether you bought Pro. Your device location never leaves the phone.

What is stored, and where

Your cities, places, addresses, notes, tags, ratings, visit history, photos and menu pictures are written to a database and a folder inside the app’s own storage on your device. They are included in your device backup if you use one. Deleting the app deletes all of it. We never receive a copy.

A backup file you create yourself goes wherever you choose to save it, such as Files or iCloud Drive. That file is yours; we do not see it.

What leaves your phone

WhatWhenWho receives it
Text you type into address search, and the name of a city you add When you search for an address, and when a city needs a pin for the map Photon, a geocoding service run by Komoot GmbH in Germany
Your question, or a screenshot you pick, plus the name of the city you chose as context Only when you tap “Ask AI about it” or “Read a screenshot” Our own server, which forwards it to Anthropic, the company that operates Claude
A place or a trip you share Only when you tap share Whoever you send it to. A shared trip travels inside the link itself and is not stored on a server
An anonymous purchase check When the app starts RevenueCat, which tells the app whether this device owns Pro. No name, email or account is attached
Your IP address Any request to our server Us, held only in memory to stop one device flooding the AI lookup. Not written to a database

Your location

If you use “What’s near me”, the app asks the system for your position and measures the distance to your saved places on the device. That position is not sent to us, to Anthropic, or to anyone else. You can refuse the permission and every other part of the app still works.

Photos

Photos and menu pictures you attach to a place are copied into the app’s own storage and stay there. The one exception is the screenshot you deliberately pick for “Read a screenshot”: that image is sent to our server and on to Anthropic so the place can be identified. We do not store it. Anthropic may retain it for a short period to prevent misuse, under their own terms.

Who else is involved

  • Komoot GmbH (Photon) — address and city lookups.
  • Anthropic PBC — answers the AI lookup and reads screenshots you submit.
  • Vercel Inc. — hosts our small API.
  • RevenueCat, Inc. — records that this device owns the one-time Pro purchase.
  • Apple — sells the app and the Pro unlock, and delivers app updates.

We do not use analytics, advertising or crash-reporting services, and we do not track you across apps or websites. We do not sell or share personal information, and we never will.

Children

TakeMeBack is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.

Your rights

Because we hold no account and no copy of your library, there is nothing for us to export or delete on your behalf. You are in full control: delete a place, a city, or the whole app, and it is gone. If you would like to ask us anything about this policy, write to imler.ai.info@gmail.com and we will answer.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what leaves your phone, we will update this page and note it in the app’s release notes.
